Refillable Hydration Stations

October 14th, 2015

The Water Bears are a team of five students from North Warren Regional High School that are dedicated to making a difference within their school and community.  Danielle Pergola, Kelsey Yarzab, Cole Palatini, Zack Cullen, Julia Wetzel and faculty advisor, Jennifer Trezza are working on a proposal for the 2016 Lexus ECO Challenge.  Their goal is to install refillable bottle hydration stations throughout the school.  If they win the challenge, they will be awarded $2000 to spend towards two stations.  Hydration stations have been installed in many offices, companies and colleges and are making their way into elementary, middle and high schools.

After surveying the student body and faculty/staff on water bottle use, the initiative is expected to reduce disposable bottled water use by 25%.  Less bottled water use will help minimize landfill growth, allow for better waste management, reduce fossil fuel usage thus contributing less to greenhouse gases as a school.  The survey results also showed that better hydration will result for students and staff in North Warren Regional High School.

Please email jtrezza@northwarren.org if you’d like to help with the Water Bears initiative to bring refillable water bottle stations to Blairstown.
